Frequently Asked Questions

speech therapist greensboro

Why do I have to see an Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist before starting therapy?

A person’s voice or airway concerns are often caused by changes to their anatomy following an illness or direct injury. An ENT will perform an endoscopic exam to look at your vocal cords to determine if there is any pathology that would benefit from medical intervention, such as medication or surgery, and inform how I can be most helpful as a therapist. If you have not seen an ENT prior to your consultation or evaluation, we will discuss any specifics related to your case that should be investigated further.

Do you take insurance?

At this time we accept Medicare. For BCBS, United Healthcare, and Cigna plans we have registered as an Out of Network provider. We can provide you with a Super Bill that you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement, as well as provide a good faith estimate prior to initiating treatment. Payment is due at the time of service.

I feel short of breath or have a chronic cough and I’ve seen every doctor I can think of. Can you help?

In order for me to help with shortness of breath/disordered breathing or chronic cough we need to understand a few things.

  • First, do you have *any* pulmonary concerns - asthma, COPD etc.

  • Second, is there any indication that reflux or allergies are playing a role.

  • Third, do you have any cardiac conditions or take any medications that include shortness of breath or cough as a side effect

  • Finally, what are the circumstances of your episodes - for example, do they occur in response to specific triggers or are they completely unpredictable

During our consultation call we’ll discuss these factors to determine how I can be helpful in reducing or resolving your symptoms.

Where do you offer in-home services?

Apiary Voice and Communication will come to you for in-home appointments in Greensboro. In-home services may be available outside of Greensboro on a case-by-case basis. During your consultation call we will discuss where you are located to make a plan that suits your needs and the availability of the clinician.
